pewter sculpture – THE BEACH SERIES
Moving to Sussex back to my home town Littlehampton and being near the sea again after living in London for 11 Years, literally was a breath of fresh air. Being a few minutes walk from the beach meant that I was frequently there always returning with a pocket full of shells or a crabs claws that had caught her eye.
Starting to take photographs while down there became the influence for this series of work. It was the details that caught my eye the way the tide pulled the around the pebbles creating a patterns in the sand and how the seaweed moved in the water and flowed over the rocks.
I used these sculptures to develop new skills in wood carving, combining the carved pieces with the pewter to create the contrasts I had seen on the beach.
