Limited Edition – Precious Cargo Edition of 50
Ltd Edition – Precious Cargo is a scaled edition of a larger sculptural work from my ongoing Home series, where I explore ideas of Home, containment, protection, and the quiet significance of the spaces we create.
This piece draws inspiration from the remarkable behaviour of dung beetles. After mating, they form a brooding ball a carefully constructed, near-perfect sphere shaped with instinct and purpose. Within this form, the female lays her eggs, enclosing them inside a self-contained environment that provides both nourishment and protection. What might appear at first glance as a simple object is, in fact, a complete world: a cradle, a shelter and the beginning of new life.
 Subtle changes in the surface and material hint at the richness of what is contained within, echoing the layered purpose of the beetle’s brooding sphere. The addition of 24ct gold leaf introduces a moment of elevation and reverence, drawing attention to the value of what is held and protected, while the coloured cast concrete with straw references the raw, earthy origins of the form.
As with all pieces in the Home series, Precious Cargo sits between sculpture and object — both contemplative and grounded. It invites a closer look,offering a quiet reflection on care, making, and the deeply embedded instinct to create a place of safety and belonging.
