Hidden Botanicals – Emerging Woodland explores the delicate relationship between nature and metal, capturing a moment where preserved woodland botanicals appear to emerge from a hand-formed pewter form.
Inspired by walks through the woodland, the sculpture combines preserved honesty seedheads, ivy, beech leaves and delicate fern fronds with individually sculpted pewter botanical elements. Rather than containing the botanicals, the flowing pewter body acts as the source from which they appear to grow, creating the impression that the natural forms are gradually transitioning from the organic into permanent pewter.
The softly formed pewter body has been shaped by hand before being carefully composed with preserved botanicals and sculpted pewter leaves. The contrast between the warm natural tones of the preserved foliage and the cool reflective surface of the pewter creates a quiet balance between fragility and permanence, encouraging the viewer to look closely and discover the many layers within the sculpture.
Each artwork is individually handmade in my Sussex studio, ensuring every composition is unique. Natural variations in the preserved botanicals mean no two sculptures will ever be identical.
Designed with versatility in mind, the sculpture can be displayed freestanding on a console table, shelf, sideboard or pedestal, or mounted directly onto the wall using the concealed keyhole fixing on the reverse, requiring only a single screw. Whether displayed in a contemporary home, office, reception area or gallery, it creates a striking focal point while bringing a subtle connection to the natural world.

About the Botanicals
The preserved leaves, ivy and ferns used within this sculpture have undergone a specialist preservation process in which their natural moisture is replaced with a glycerine-based solution. This allows the botanicals to retain their softness, flexibility and natural character rather than becoming brittle or dry.
The honesty seed heads are naturally dried and have been carefully selected for their delicate, translucent quality, providing a beautiful contrast to the preserved foliage and sculpted pewter elements.
With appropriate indoor care, the preserved botanicals are intended to remain beautiful indefinitely, retaining their softness and flexibility thanks to the specialist glycerine preservation process. Each sculpture is supplied with a soft brush for the gentle removal of dust. Displaying the work away from prolonged direct sunlight and excessive humidity will help preserve the natural materials so the sculpture can be enjoyed for generations.
